How to transform an oddly unique house to fit a family's needs.
Case study: The Multi-Generational House
After having moved from country to country, this family of five was ready to settle in The Hague for a while and create their multi-generational family home.
This 300 m2 house on a 3 acre land was a one of a kind project for both the family and us the architects.
Located on the fringes of The Hague, this house’s layout is quite unique. Because of the sloping terrain the house was built on, the structure of the house was over 4 different levels, which were connected through intermediate mid-levels, and of course plenty of stairs that led from one level to another.
AKKA was in charge of renovating this 400m2 house, including structural elements, wall demolitions, new layouts, electrical, plumbing, finishes, look & feel, carpentry…etc. The end result was an intuitive flow connecting the different levels of the space efficiently and allowing this three-generations family to co-live in this house.
